When it comes to looking after kids, it pays to keep them entertained...

As if by magic, two test volunteers appeared the moment I took the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11S out of its box. They were my kids: Jack (aged 5, with 1 year’s LeapFrog LeapPad tablet experience) and Amelia (aged 3, whose tablet experience depended on Jack’s ability to share). Speaking of IT experience, I have over two decades’ worth. This, though, counted for nothing when it came to locating the power button. Thankfully, Jack was able to find it in seconds. Meanwhile, Amelia simply thought that the Yoga 11S was ‘so awesome’—and that was before Jack turned it on. Up and running, the kids loved the touchscreen, Windows 8 and the colorful apps. But what really impressed them was when I flipped the screen from laptop to tablet mode*. Then purely for research purposes (honest mum), I let them play some games. But  the change in mode also changed the mood as both Amelia and Jack wanted to hold the Yoga 11S at the same time. Usually, when these siblings squabble, it can end in tears and, occasionally, with something being broken. However, I guess that some Lenovo engineers are parents too... Because thanks to its unique design, the Yoga 11S can be flipped into tent or stand mode—perfect for showing films or presentations. What’s more, the display has In-Plane Switching which means that its content can be seen from almost any angle. So with the device in tent mode and a YouTube episode of Tom & Jerry...
