Lenovo Kicks off Global Reseller Alliance with Extreme Networks

Extreme Networks Summit X440

Extreme Networks Summit X440

Guest blog by Tom Ribble, Director, Lenovo EPG Marketing and Alliances.  Back in July, (yes I know many of us will have to dig deep to remember that far back) we announced the formation of a global alliance with Extreme Networks, a leader in high-performance Ethernet switching.

At Lenovo, we know we’re the newcomers in the x86 server space. In fact, many people don’t even know yet that Lenovo sells servers. (By the way, Lenovo also sells smart phones). Well, we’ve been working really hard this year to change that and are making great strides. We’re proud of the alliances we’re building with industry giants such as, Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, and VMware. Extreme Networks is the latest in the list.

Why partner with Extreme Networks you ask? Well, hopefully you asked because I’m going to tell you. First, Extreme Networks is focused specifically on switches, and providing innovation in this space. They make great products. Second, these switches have been thoroughly tested for compatibility with our rack servers. Third, because reliability is key, we strive for flawless implementation so your server/solution starts quickly and correctly and stays up and running smoothly. We have high expectations from our suppliers. All ThinkServer third-party suppliers must meet stringent quality standards for reliability in enterprise environments. We source the best products available and ensure they are living up to Lenovo standards.

For Extreme Networks, we will be reselling four different switches, plus accessories, cabling, power, and OS licenses. The four models will cover a variety of deployment scenarios for our customers. We will offer various configurations of these four products. The Summit X440, X460, and X670 are ideal for small-to-mid-sized businesses. The Black Diamond X8 (makes me want to hit the slopes in Colorado) is as awesome as its name and is the mack-daddy switch for enterprise environments.

Extreme Networks Summit X440 is an edge switch that provides high-performance routing and switching in a cost-effective, small data-center-and-access switch that is easy to deploy and manage.
Extreme Networks Summit X460 is a top-of-rack switch for many data-center environments, and is an effective campus edge switch with POE-plus, which can serve as an aggregation switch for traditional enterprise networks.
Extreme Networks Summit X670 series switches are purpose-built, top-of-rack switches designed to support 1 gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE, in addition to providing 40 GbE uplink support.
Extreme Networks Black Diamond X8 series switches provide high-performance, low-latency switch fabrics with high-density 10 GbE, 40 GbE, and 100 GbE connectivity for core-to-edge applications. It’s an extremely compact footprint, using only one-third of a standard rack. I mentioned innovation above. This switch provides 2,304 10 GbE ports ─ 768 more than the closest competitor. Fabric throughput is at a whopping 20 Tbps, which is two times higher than the closest competitor. Price/performance is also better than the completion as is power consumption.

We’re really excited about our ability to resell the Extreme Networks products as it rounds out our portfolio and allows us to deliver a complete solution to our customers ─ enterprise-class servers, Extreme Networks switches and EMC storage. We hope you’re excited about this too. Visit the Networking Switches page on the Lenovo ThinkServer web site for more information.
