ThinkPad Tablet 2
The announcement of the ThinkPad Tablet 2 has elicited a strong response. The Tablet 2 is the first ThinkPad Windows 8 tablet device. Here we will present interviews with the developers over a number of articles. First up, the Product Development Manager and Technical Project Manager leading the Yamato development team discuss the project. - In the ThinkPad Tablet interview, you said there was a need for a thinner, lighter Windows version. Kinoshita: I am glad we got there in the end. The Tablet 2 is an evolution of the original Tablet, resulting in a much smaller, thinner and lighter product, and I am confident that it improves the user experience. The original Tablet was an Android platform, making it different from the user experience of a notebook PC, and it was a whole new world for me as well. I still think we were able to convey that "this is a ThinkPad Tablet". However, we knew from the time we were developing the original product that there were many areas we could improve on, and for its successor the entire Yamato team wanted to create something closer to our ideal product. I think the Tablet 2 is a product made possible because we went through a wide range of experiences, including the experience we had with the first Tablet. - Speaking of going through a range of...

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2
In the past, I used my tablet for simple web surfing and my trusty ThinkPad laptop for getting serious work done. But since I got a hold of Lenovo’s new ThinkPad Tablet 2, it’s changed the way I look at—and use—my devices. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that my PC is now <600 grams and has 10 hours of battery life. I’ve been using it extensively and I thought I’d share a few cool things you can do with the ThinkPad Tablet 2. First a quick spec summary of this 10.1” tablet: it sports a dual-core Intel Atom processor, 2GB memory, weighs under 600 grams, has an active digitizer pen, a resolution of 1366x768, dual cameras (8MP and 2MP), HDMI and USB 2.0 ports, SIM tray, MicroSD card slot, GPS, WLAN, BT and NFC radios. (Full spec list here.) With that out of the way, here are 8 cool things you can do with the ThinkPad Tablet 2: 1. Install your favorite apps. The Windows app store is growing by the day. The ThinkPad tablet runs Windows 8 Pro so you can download and install any traditional desktop application along with the mobile apps available there. Anything you can run on Windows XP, Vista or 7 will run flawlessly on this tablet. 2. Charge/sync your devices. With the tablet’s USB 2.0 port, you can connect phones, MP3 players and other tablets...

Today is the second major product release for Lenovo at CES in Vegas and it’s all about convertibles—introducing ThinkPad Helix. This is the premier convertible for business users. It features an 11.6” 10-point multi-touch screen with pen touch and Gorilla Glass, a bright 400nit IPS panel that has a 1920x1080 resolution, and 10 hours of battery life to keep you going for an entire workday. This Ultrabook convertible adds to the momentum of convertible products we released in October. ThinkPad Helix is built around a simple “rip and flip” design so users can swiftly go from Ultrabook to tablet. And it is designed to take full advantage of the newly released, touch-optimized Windows 8 OS with a new five-button glass clickpad. ThinkPad Helix combines the stealth design of the Think brand and powerful processors from Intel—both of which make this the ultimate machine for mobility and getting the job done. “What about the ThinkPad Tablet 2,” you ask? Good question. Both ThinkPad Helix and ThinkPad Tablet 2 come from the same brand family of Think but they are two different beasts. ThinkPad Helix is first a business-class Ultrabook...

Turk Pipkin and his education and action nonprofit organization, The Nobelity Project, tackles pressing global issues such as hunger, climate change, and war and peace through powerful documentary films. One issue close to his heart is the education of children in Africa, and recently Pipkin was instrumental in building a computer lab for students in Kenya ("Bringing Education to the World, One Country at a Time"). While in awe of his activism, we were also mesmerized by Pipkin’s multifaceted Do spirit. Pipkin is a respected author of 10 books, a TV writer, and a former stand-up comedian and entertainer (“The Sopranos” fans may recognize Pipkin as Aaron Arkaway, the narcoleptic boyfriend of Tony Soprano’s sister, Janice). Pipkin reveals how his past and present has connected to provide technology, inspiration and hope to children. How did the Nobelity Project collaboration with AMD and Lenovo form? The collaboration came from some great people at AMD, specifically the efforts of Bart Arnold, and Cory Grenier at Lenovo. One of our favorite new computer labs is at Kabiruini Girls Secondary School. The 200-plus students have new Lenovo ThinkCentres and Thinkpads with AMD technology. These are some happy and creative students, and their grades have gone...
