News ThinkStation

As some of you may recall, last year I wrote an article on how the ThinkStation group had worked to achieve various application certifications to support upstream exploration workflows in the Oil & Gas industry.  Well, today, I’m proud to announce that this month we will be exhibiting our full line of professional ThinkStation desktop workstations, ThinkPad mobile workstations and solutions capabilities at the 76th Annual European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) conference in Amsterdam.  Since 1951, EAGE has brought together the very best in commercial scientific practices, academic research and new technology to help drive innovation and efficiencies in Oil & Gas and Near Surface Geosciences.  EAGE draws nearly 7,000 commercial and academic professionals from around the world to discuss and promote new advancements in geophysics, petroleum and reservoir engineering, mining and civil engineering methodologies.  So what might one expect to see from Lenovo at EAGE? Well, in addition to getting a glimpse of the newly designed P300, Lenovo’s latest and newly redesigned entry level workstation, showgoers will have an opportunity to experience a wide range of new and exciting technologies.  Attendees will get a look at Lenovo’s new fully virtualized and GRID enabled workstation, designed to support even the most robust and demanding 3D visualization requirements.  Powered by Citrix and...

While watching The Big Bang Theory on Thursday nights — or anytime day or night on TBS for that matter — I wondered why the show makes me laugh. I truly enjoy the geek speak, but it’s the personalities of the characters that really drive the series’ success. Removing any one of the characters would drastically change the show, and possibly its overall success. Is there a Big Bang Theory without Sheldon? Or a Modern Family without Cam? Or even a Seinfeld without Kramer? (I shudder at the thought!) Just as keeping the cast intact is important to a show’s success, keeping your data intact is paramount to the success of your business or your personal life. How many of us are cluelessly computing away, blissfully ignorant of the “what-if” scenario. What if my hard drive fails? What if my year-long project report is corrupted? What if the world never knew, “Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock” for crying out loud!??  I, too, have been a victim of this disaster. My home computer’s hard drive wouldn’t boot, no matter what I tried to do. The issue was a bad physical sector — a dead hard drive in laymen’s terms. All of the information on that drive was gone; music, pictures, tax returns, financial statements, you know the typical stuff we don’t want prying eyes to see. There are few things worse than the empty feeling you get when your data has evaporated. The personal loss was so...

Today at Citrix Synergy in Barcelona, Citrix announced the new Citrix HDX 3D Certification Program, and Lenovo is proud to be part of this announcement. We’re participating as a Silver Sponsor and demonstrating the M92P Tiny desktop’s capabilities as a virtualization device. The M92p Tiny is unique in the industry with it full power Intel vPro processors in a tiny desktop design, making it the perfect balance of compact size, high performance and easy manageability for XenDesktop and XenApp environments. We also offer thin configurations of the M92p tiny with a compact 8GB SSD and Windows Embedded 7. When it comes to today’s high-performance users (CAD/CAM, Oil & Gas, Financial trading and modeling) security and graphics performance are essential. Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp solve for security, but it’s the combination of Citrix’s HDX 3D and the M92p Tiny desktop that deliver  the graphics performance. M92p Tiny’s optional full power Intel vPro processors meets the hardware spec of even the highest Citrix HDX 3d Pro for breathtaking graphics to the end point device that are virtually indistinguishable from graphics executed locally. When it comes to the choice of running a traditional Thin Client or the Lenovo M92p Tiny for these Power Users the choice is abundantly clear.  ...

We’ve had lots of questions recently about International Warranty Service (IWS), what systems are eligible, what’s included, how to find out more, etc..  So, here are a few hints and tips to confirm whether you’re covered the next time you travel with your ThinkPad.  What is International Warranty Service (IWS)? IWS lets you receive Warranty Service for eligible Lenovo Think systems when you travel or relocate to a country where that product is sold and serviced.  The length of coverage is based on the length of your original base warranty, but the method or level of service (depot, onsite, carry-in) may be different.  There are certain countries that may require a proof of purchase or proof of proper importation before you can receive an IWS service and there may be fees or restrictions that apply when and if you need IWS.  Indonesia Malaysia Phillippines Singapore Thailand Vietnam China Argentina How can I determine if my machine is eligible for IWS? You can check out whether your system is eligible, find contact information and country coverage at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/iws.page?: Upon providing your machine type or series number, identify the country of interest and call the contact number provided to initiate IWS service for your machine.  What’s covered versus...

According to a recent study by TBR, which surveyed 440 IT executives, Lenovo’s ThinkStation workstations are more reliable than its competitors over a typical three year lifecycle and require 21% fewer repairs than average systems ensuring our customers have less downtime. As a Lenovo ThinkStation team member, I was proud to read these findings; however, I would be lying if I said I was surprised. Our team understands the vital role workstations play to organizations often running critical applications including medical imaging, financial trading software and intricate product design. This is why we take the design and engineering process of our ThinkStation so seriously to build both high performing and reliable devices. So what makes Lenovo ThinkStation’s so reliable? Well, reliability starts with keeping the system and its interior components cool and secure, which makes them less likely to fail. ThinkStations are designed to provide maximum airflow over key components, bringing cool air in and making sure hot air exits. Featuring a HexPerf design, this honeycomb shape in the Lenovo ThinkStations allows more air to enter the system than a simple circular pattern. Tri-channel cooling technology in the ThinkStation C-Series, keeps components running 5-8 degrees cooler than other workstations,...
