Point 1: Discipline(s): a “village” of experts worked together to design X6
Lots of discipline went into the design of the System x X6 family of servers. Correction: perhaps we should say disciplines. Experts in High End Hardware Development, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, User Experience and Mechanical Engineering all collaborated on what would become the final design of the X6 portfolio of rack servers.
One engineer reinterpreted the way a high end system could be constructed; his models were the impetus for the modular concept. Others collaboratively designed a feasible architecture, interconnects, the system’s spatial layout and the final architectural design. Human Factors engineers optimized the design to be more user-friendly by taking into account the way that individuals naturally process information and the ways in which they act based on what they see and/or understand. The design team knew that not only could a well-thought-out and innovative design help data center professionals to streamline day-to-day activities such as routine maintenance, service and upgrades, but also, it could drive a more positive user experience.
In the final design, easy-to-install flexible granular elements form the basis of the X6 rack server. These elements slide into and out of the server chassis much like books on a book shelf. Having “preconfigured assemblies” (also known as removable modular “books”) represents a real leap forward in usability in enterprise system design. X6 rack servers feature three types of these modules, one for each of...

Well, the Lenovo Workstation team shows no signs of slowing down as they steam roll ahead to SEG 2014.
For those of you who may not know much about SEG, I’ll help by giving you some background on the event. As technology and industry leaders, we at Lenovo are very proud to be part of this year’s exhibition and, as you might expect, we have a TON of great exciting technologies to show off to show goers and attendees.

Are you "that person" in your crew that is always up on the newest artists and tracks before anybody else?
If so, you'll want to check out the Future Icons channel inside the Lenovo Companion app, available exclusively on Lenovo Windows 8 systems. Future Icons brings you exclusive behind-the-scenes music and videos from artists we've tapped as the next big thing. They will share with you how they use digital music creation to get their sound, and hopefully inspire you to start making some tracks as well!
Our newest Future Icon is the alternative rock band called LIFE. The band consists of Los Angeles natives Moi J Quinn,Sean Chapman, and Matthew McEwan, and offers a distinctive SoCal sound reminiscent of 311 and Sublime. Their exciting debut EP, R U D W N? drops June 18, 2014, featuring their first single of the same name. (If you're in the Los Angeles area, they will perform at their album release party at the legendary Roxy nightclub in Hollywood June 18.)
Moi, Matt and Sean were first known as the founders of Southern California band Tomorrow's Bad Seeds, and spent nearly a decade engaging a diehard fan base with three full-length albums as well as successful stints on Warped Tour. However, their muse suddenly morphed right before their eyes. "It wasn't planned out," recalls Sean. "We just started writing music, and it awakened something different within us. It wasn't Tomorrows Bad Seeds. It was new. The three of us...
As you head to Accelerate 2014 this week, think about the smartphone, tablet or desktop you carry with you. Think about how important those devices are, and how it would affect you if you broke or lost of one of them.
In recent years, with our increased reliance on cloud computing, we’ve been led to believe the hardware is not that important. All that matters is the data. But what if you have just taken some photos or written a new report that you didn’t back up before the device malfunctioned or got lost? You certainly wouldn’t question the importance of the hardware then.
We all carry unique data in our devices that we want to keep safe and secure. It’s easier to do that if the devices used to store the data are durable and dependable. The quality of the hardware is quintessential to our satisfaction and happiness with the device.
You’ve told us you want device diversity and innovation, and we will show our commitment to both. While our competitors change their minds on what platforms and devices to support, we have been busy assembling a diverse portfolio of devices to address the needs and preferences of all end users.
Our growing portfolio includes servers, workstations, desktops, notebooks, tablets, smartphones, and convertible PCs that combine tablet and notebook features. As our business partners, you can leverage the diversity in our portfolio to consult with customers and help them match...
The New Year is well underway. The resolutions are forgotten or dusted under the mat somewhere. But does that mean you should stop challenging yourself and throw in the towel for 2014? Of course not. Instead of just talking about trying new things, we want to challenge you to walk the walk and start DO-ing.
What better way to do this than with a series of ‘DO Challenges’ – four week-long activities that will spur you to embrace the year with the spirit of DO. Is it difficult? Not at all. We’ll challenge you to participate in any (or all) four different themes under Art & Design, Travel, Music and Photography.
Challenge 1: “Capture First Light”
We challenge you to interpret the first light of day. What this can be is totally up to you. The sunrise, a streetlight, a light bulb, the shadow of your first cup of coffee in the morning or the city lights on your early morning flight – you tell us. Take a picture and share it with us. Or share an old picture you took that you think captures this concept.
Challenge 2: “Travel End to End”
We challenge you to be spontaneous and adventurous by stepping out of your normal routine. Take that subway to another stop or travel to the other end of town, to the place you’ve always wanted to visit but never managed to go. What about traveling end to end on...
David Roman with new awards
The last week of February was an amazing one in Barcelona, Spain – home to Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest mobile trade show. New phones, tablets, mobile apps, and more, made their debut on one of the most important stages for the industry.
And for the first time ever, Lenovo was on the show floor making a clear, bold statement that it is among the world’s best when it comes to mobile tech.
New Products Wow Crowds
New products like the Yoga Tablet 10 inch HD+ and a full line of S-series smartphones made their debut, along with an end-to-end lineup of DOit apps that bring a new meaning to speed and ease for smartphone users everywhere.
In addition to these new crowd pleasers, Lenovo’s booth was full of Vibe Z and Vibe X smartphones, Yogas, mobile Win8 products, and so much more.
Not to be outdone by the S-series and new Yoga Tablet winning product awards, for the first time ever, Lenovo received an award for a mobile app – its blazing fast SHAREit app.
And while this was the first time Lenovo has ever had a trade show presence, that didn’t stop its booth from winning multiple praises from the design community and GSMA’s CEO.
While the team packs their bags and head home, many will remember MWC 2014 as the time when Lenovo embraced being out on the floor,...
Lenovo welcomed partners and customers to its lounge tonight in Barcelona as it introduced the Vibe Z and Vibe X smartphones to guests at the show.
The Vibe smartphone series is one of Lenovo’s flagship products at Mobile World Congress (MWC), and is one of the most talked about offerings by visitors to the booth.
“The Vibe Brand is all about users who want to use their mobile device and connect to their environment to tell their individual story and journey,” said Lenovo Ambassador Ashley Rodrigue who then introduced Executive Vice President of Lenovo Business Group, Liu Jun.
“This is my third trip to join MWC,” commented Liu Jun. “My first trip in 2011 was when I took over Lenovo’s mobile business, when we were just a PC company. Last year we had a private booth in a small corner, but this year, we have a very big booth here at the show. And during those three years, Lenovo’s mobile business has made very significant progress, with our smartphone sales covering half of the world!”
Liu Jun gave special thanks to the European partners in the room, many of whom have played a significant role in Lenovo’s smartphone launches all throughout the region. He also had another, very special announcement for the crowd.
“It is my great privilege to announce we will continue Lenovo’s partnership with Kobe Bryant for the next two years!”
Lenovo community, we need your help.
We're here in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress and our Lenovo Tablets have gotten themselves lost. They’re lonely, tired and have run out of battery. (Yes, it's been more than 18 hours so even the Yoga Tablet has given up.) Can you help us find and rescue them? They’ve managed to leave a few clues as to their location but it’s all very cryptic so we need your quick wit.
From Tuesday to Thursday (February 25-27), we will reveal three clues per day hinting at where the tablets are hidden. The locations will be different each day as they disappeared in three different places. By the end of Thursday, you'll need to guess the 3 locations. Please help us before those tablets are done in by rain. (Or, worse yet, cats.)
To join the game on Twitter, reply @Lenovo with the 3 locations and hashtag it #LenovoMWC
To join on Instagram, comment @Lenovo with the 3 locations on any of our posts on Thursday and use the same hashtag #LenovoMWC
Your heroics will not go unrewarded. Five super-smart sleuths, whom we’ll select from those who got all three locations correct, will be commended for their efforts and awarded a tablet of their own. (Don’t lose yours.)
Keep your eyes peeled this Friday, February 28, as we will announce the lucky winners on Twitter and Instagram.
Now let’s go find those tablets.
