Last month, we partnered with Lenovo INsider Troy Hunt so he could run a competition. The winner of the competition receives a ThinkPad 25th Anniversary Edition laptop. This was the competition idea in Troy's own words:

I wanted to give it to someone who actually did something (no randomisation) and I wanted them to do something for the betterment of online security. It also had to be something that other people could use to achieve that objective which brings me to the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) API.

From Troy Hunt: Do Something Awesome With Have I Been Pwned and Win a Lenovo ThinkPad!

When Troy announced the winner of the competition, they weren't who we expected.

So, we'd like you to meet Felix Giffard. He's a high schooler from Canada who whose entry won Troy's Have I Been Pwned? competition.

Q: How did you become so passionate about technology and robotics?

A: I have always been passionate about technology and computers. But my real passion for robotics and programming really started to take off in my second year of high school when I was invited to join my school’s FIRST Robotics team Evolution 2626. FIRST is a robotics competition where teams have six weeks to build a working robot from scratch to participate in a worldwide competition with a new challenge every year. I really like the spirit of FIRST, not only because I get to work in teams with people who are passionate about robotics, but also because it gives us the opportunity to meet really talented people from all around the world.

Q: What motivated you to enter Troy's competition?

A: I have been following Troy Hunt’s blog for a long time because I really like what he does for security and I like that he focuses on security in web development which is what I like to do. When he posted the competition, I already knew that I wanted to build something that everyone could use easily and that could help people be safer on the internet. I immediately started looking for available domain names and ended up buying because it’s really easy to remember. I started programming right away and submitted my project the next morning. I really liked the idea of this competition because even if I hadn’t have won, I would still have built a tool that would help other people.

Q: How excited are you about receiving a ThinkPad 25th Anniversary laptop and will it be your first ThinkPad?

A: I am really excited to receive this awesome laptop. I really like ThinkPad laptops and getting this brand new 25th anniversary limited edition is a real honour. This is not my first ThinkPad; I still own an old IBM ThinkPad T42 that I use to host a small internal web server on Ubuntu. But this is not my only ThinkPad. Earlier this year, I had to buy a laptop for school and I decided to buy a refurbished Lenovo T430. I use this machine every day and it does everything I need even if it has older hardware. Now that I won this new laptop, I will give the T430 to my mom because she really needs a new computer.
