20 years ago today, the ThinkPad 701C was introduced to the world. Better known by the codename “Butterfly”, this landmark engineering and design wonder shocked the industry. Butterfly was my first ThinkPad and certainly one of the most amazing I have ever experienced. Even today, it’s fun to watch people smile as you open the lid to auto-magically deploy the expanding keyboard. The late Dr. John Karidis invented this astonishing feature that landed Butterfly in the Museum of Modern Arts design collection. Happy birthday to Butterfly, and a tip of the hat once again to John and his wonderful creative spirit.
