Tech, made tough | The #ThinkFirst series

As we become more and more dependent on our technology, we’re faced with the challenge of making sure it can withstand the stresses of everyday use. So how do we make our laptops so tough?

To ensure durability of our devices, we put them through strenuous military-style testing to see if they can withstand extreme conditions. It may seem a little over-the-top, but we believe it’s necessary to put them through their paces. Sure, it’s unlikely that as an everyday user you’ll need your laptop to withstand freezing temperatures, six-hours of sandblasting, or environments with 98% humidity - but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The X1 Yoga covers are cast from melted magnesium, which is a very strong material. However, as covers get thinner, crystal growth can occur blocking the flow of the liquid and results in imperfect casts.
