Lenovo-Powered Adrenaline Junkie Completes Dakar Rally

Imagine this: you’re cruising along in your car without a care in the world. There isn’t a cloud in the sky, and the sun-splashed landscape creates a perfect backdrop that looks like it came straight from a postcard. You’ve got your arm out the window to feel the breeze and your favorite song is blaring through your speakers as you sing along word for word. It couldn’t get much better than this, right?

Well, try trading in your car for a specialized dirt bike, switching out your favorite tunes for the sounds of engines growling as they rev up the RPMs and competing in a grueling 6,000-mile race across the South American desert. That’s exactly what adrenaline junky and Lenovo-sponsored racer Eduardo Alan of Pampa Racing Team did in the 2012 Dakar Rally.

The race started in Argentina and went thousands of miles around the southern tip of the Americas through Chile to the finish line in Lima, Peru. Alan finished the long-distance race 82nd out of 465 competitors, an impressive accomplishment in a demanding event where simply finishing is most people’s primary goal. Alan said he could not have gotten through the punishing race without the help of his Lenovo laptop.

“Being equipped with Lenovo technology during the 2012 Dakar Rally was very helpful for us in getting the best out of this experience,” Alan said. “The Lenovo notebooks helped us create the best routes for this challenge and also let us keep in touch with our friends and families. The notebooks were exposed to the most challenging situations, and still their performance was great.”

Eduardo’s laptop of choice was the Lenovo G475, which he kept in a back office throughout his journey. The heat, sand and extreme environment changes were no match for the powerful AMD Dual Core E-350 processor and Energy Management system of the G475. Although space and weight restrictions prevented Alan from taking his trusty Lenovo laptop with him for a leisurely ride on the racecourse, he said he’s confident his durable Lenovo machine would have been equal to the challenge.
