Tuesday morning began with the first General Session meeting of Accelerate 2013 and the beat-dropping styles of DJ Mike Tompkins got things started off right. If you aren’t familiar with Mike’s work, he’s become a YouTube sensation for his ability to produce music by combining his singing, rapping, pre-recorded scratching, beat-boxing and self-generated sounds to recreate Top 40 hits. For today’s show, he built an app on Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Horizon 27” table with multi-touch display technology.
Sammy Kinlaw, Lenovo’s Director of Channel Sales, kicked off the General Session meeting and introduced a mix of presenters from Lenovo, Microsoft and Intel, plus a special myth busting guest speaker.
Lenovo’s President of North America, Jay Parker, presented his five priorities for FY14 - Re-define the Lenovo Customer Experience, Grow PC+, Sustainable Consumer Growth, Aggressively Acquire Commercial Accounts, Enterprise and Around the Box.
Chris Frey, North America’s Channel Chief, followed with his Hand to Hand Combat strategy that will help develop an independent Channel, increase sales velocity and produce higher partner profitability.
Dilip Bhatia, Vice President for ThinkPad, spoke about Lenovo's market share success. ThinkPad is the #1 commercial notebook worldwide along with our ThinkCentre all-in-one PC offerings. Bhatia also unveiled the new ThinkPad S431 laptop. The S431 delivers high style and performance to image-conscious small businesses. Read the full press release. It’s obvious that Lenovo’s R&D department has been hard at work creating solutions for end-users and challenging how people can do business more effectively.
Probably most well-known for being a host on Discovery Channel’s MythBusters, Grant Imahara was our special guest speaker during today's General Session. Before joining MythBusters, Imahara was an engineer for LucasFilms and had the pleasure of updating R2-D2 for the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Speakers from Lenovo Accelerate cohosts, Intel and Microsoft also took this stage this morning. Intel Business PC Marketing Manager, Chris Hubbard, spoke about the extraordinary opportunity for Channel partners to refresh customer systems with Lenovo's new innovative products. And Microsoft Senior Director, US OEM, Jeff Erbstein, spoke about the Windows XP refresh opportunity.
In addition, Tom Looney, Vice President and General Manager, North America, gave an update on Lenovo’s enterprise, public sector and federal business. Tom outlined our protect and attack strategy for 2013 and the tactics that will help us continue to grow in the future.
Last, but not least, David Rabin, Executive Director of Marketing, North America, outlined how we will continue enabling partners to better sell Lenovo solutions -- mobile, desktops, workstations, servers and storage.
