As far as we earthlings know, ThinkPad holds a strong share (almost 100%, all except 2 laptops) in the outer space market. As you may have seen in the media coverage, ThinkPads are installed in the Space Shuttle and ISS (International Space Station). If you visit NASA gallery or JAXA's (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) photo library website and take a look at images from ongoing missions, I'm sure you can spot many 15-inch LCD ThinkPads working among the astronauts. And there are a lot more ThinkPads going their way. My favorite is this. NASA decided to employ ThinkPads again to replace their current systems, and the new ThinkPads are currently being set up here on Earth for upcoming missions. For the time being, ThinkPads are the only notebooks that NASA officially plans to employ in space missions. So, why only ThinkPads? Because, no other notebooks can. Other notebooks don't meet the quality standards and have the capability to endure the harsh mission environment. Aside from obvious prerequisites (such as maintaining full functionality in zero gravity), there are other requirements that are literally out of this world. This became evident to me when we were planning replacement models with NASA. For the replacement models, NASA required that the ThinkPads be required to "endure proton beams." …Sure, got it. From the sound of that I can only imagine that it required a lot of work. As it turned out, a proton beam is a type of cosmic ray, which would require special equipment just for testing. One of my favorite movies of all time is Oscar winner Hayao Miyazaki's animated "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind". Supposedly, those destructive laser beams fired by the monstrous "God Warrior" in the film were actually proton beams. Who knows? Maybe a God Warrior is lurking in our basement here in Yamato. (lol) And finally, I'm very happy to share this comment from NASA. From NASA: "You should be proud because on EVERY Shuttle Launch, there are Lenovo Laptop Computers and Docking Stations in use!! (For Accuracy, they turn on the laptops and docking stations about 3 hours after launch!!) "
