It's a proud day here at Lenovo! After months of research, development and testing, we've released REACHit - the newest member of our DOit Apps family.
Like it’s sister app SHAREit, REACHit was conceived as a way to make your digital life a little bit simpler - by giving you a single dashboard that lets you search for files across all of your cloud services (like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Box) and all of your devices (like your home laptop, your work PC, your tablet, your mobile) at once.
That's right. No matter what device you're on, you can use REACHit to find a file on any other device you have, or in any cloud storage service we support. And it's completely free on any Android or iOS device and Windows PCs.

What is one of the top challenges for IT departments? The need to deploy sophisticated and advanced technology that can help meet their needs faster and at lower cost. Recently, Lenovo refreshed its existing mainstream System x dual-socket server offerings (1U rack x3550 M5 and the most popular 2U rack x3650 M5) by expanding support for the latest processor, networking, and storage technologies. In this blog, I'd like to briefly explore these new technologies and their potential benefits for different workload types. Also, I will discuss some industry benchmark results to highlight the key benefits that the x3550 M5 and x3650 M5 systems offer based on actual performance measurements.
The System x M5 servers now support the full range of Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family, including 18 or 16 cores (2.3 GHz core speeds); 14, 12, or 10 cores (up to 2.6 GHz core speeds); 8 cores (up to 3.2 GHz core speeds); 6 cores (up to 3.4 GHz core speeds); and 4 cores (up to 3.5 GHz core speeds).

Lenovo Diagnostics contains a suite of quick and extended tests that include memory, storage (SSD, SATA and SAS), optical, wireless, mother board, CPU, video and RAID. The diagnostics are available as a bootable, or a downloadable package that can be run under Windows (or Linux) operating systems.
Monitor System Health
If you want to check and monitor your system health then check out the Lenovo Solution Center (LSC). LSC acts as a central hub for monitoring system health and security. With LSC, you can monitor your system’s virus and firewall status, update your software, perform a backup, check battery health, and get registration and warranty information.
You can also immediately test or schedule a test of your system’s hardware, and learn from hints and tips to achieve maximum system performance.
LSC uses a snapshot feature, which allows you to compare your current hardware and software configuration with the earlier configuration that was created the first time you launched Lenovo Solution Center. Download LSC for Windows 8.1 32-bit (.exe) or 64-bit (.exe).

In the previous blog, I spoke about Enterprise applications that drive the need for 4 and 8 socket scale-up deployments. In this blog, I’m going to talk about the business value of scale–up deployments.
Companies consolidating workloads from scale-out x86 servers to scale-up servers can experience savings in a number of categories, including server and networking cost reduction, licensing fee reduction, and avoidance of costs associated with IT staffing as well as datacenter facilities and power and cooling. Without consolidation, these costs would have increased because larger numbers of physically separate servers would have been needed to support all of those workloads and to support all of the end users accessing the servers. Also, end-user productivity can be enhanced with less downtime or performance issues.
Reduced Software licensing costs.
A major factor to consolidating onto scale-up systems included the reduction in the number of instances of supporting software such as operating system licenses and third party licenses. Since many major software packages are licensed on a per-processor or per-core basis, reducing the number of systems can significantly lower annual software supports cost.
Improved IT staff productivity.
Using scale-up servers reduces the total number of processors and servers under management. With fewer physical servers to maintain, server administrators were freed up to focus on higher-value-added tasks and expand process automation applications without adding overhead. Lenovo is proud to formally announce a partnership with Cloudera to bring forward a tool box of solutions for Hadoop deployments. Lenovo’s newly acquired System x portfolio had an existing relationship with Cloudera, and has released a variety of reference architectures around Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub & Hadoop Distribution. For our advanced, tech-savvy users out there, we know you may want to enter Setup Utility or the Boot Menu in Windows 8.1.
Here’s how to do it.
By default, a Windows 8/8.1 shutdown is not a real shutdown. Instead, it is hybrid shutdown where contents of memory are saved to disk. This allows for a faster startup. However, turning on the PC after a hybrid shutdown does not allow for pressing F1 or F12 during startup.
There are several ways to enter Setup Utility (F1) or the Boot Menu (F12) on a Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 PC as explained below:
Press and hold the Shift key while selecting the Shutdown option in Windows 8. This will make the PC perform a full shutdown instead of a hybrid shutdown. Then F1 or F12 can be pressed successfully during startup.
Select Restart instead of Shutdown. Then F1 or F12 can be pressed successfully during startup.
Disable the fast startup option in Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do.
It is also possible to access these features from within Windows 8/8.1.
To enter Setup Utility:
Open the Charms Bar by pressing Windows Key-C or by swiping in from the right edge of your screen
Click on Settings
Click on Change PC Settings
Click on ...
