The Makings of a (Channel) Chief

2016 was a memorable year for Lenovo and its North America Channel partners, with several notable accomplishments: the average VAR partners spend grew by more than 30 percent YoY, we announced the Data Center Group (DCG) Partner Certification and growth of the Small to mid-size VAR was high double digit premium to the market. To top everything off, Lenovo’s Sammy Kinlaw was recently named by CRN as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Channel Chiefs of 2017.

Sammy leads Lenovo’s North America channel business with forward-thinking initiatives and a simple goal: to drive partners’ success. This recognition indicates that our channel coverage model, programs/incentive stack, and events are working. Of the CRN honor, Sammy says, “It’s personally rewarding, of course, but most importantly, it shows that Lenovo and its partners are winning, and we’re committed to growing with the channel.”

Last year’s achievements have laid the foundation for what’s to come. This year, Lenovo is targeting double digit services growth YoY within the NA Channel and attacking the opportunity to present faster, lighter form factors in mobile computing, with Intel’s recent move to Kaby Lake. There will also be a heavy push on workstation growth, making the product value much more prolific.

One of the most important elements when it comes to support of the partner community is clear, consistent communication. “There is a great deal in flux, and things like product transitions can bring complexity and even confusion. Lenovo’s goal is to reduce the noise and allow partners to focus on the critical components of their business and win together,” says Sammy.

What’s next? Lenovo Accelerate, our annual channel partner conference scheduled for April 24-26 in Orlando.
