Yuanqing and Catherine Ladousse enjoy the end of a long day at MWC 2014

David Roman with new awards The last week of February was an amazing one in Barcelona, Spain – home to Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest mobile trade show. New phones, tablets, mobile apps, and more, made their debut on one of the most important stages for the industry. And for the first time ever, Lenovo was on the show floor making a clear, bold statement that it is among the world’s best when it comes to mobile tech. New Products Wow Crowds New products like the Yoga Tablet 10 inch HD+ and a full line of S-series smartphones made their debut, along with an end-to-end lineup of DOit apps that bring a new meaning to speed and ease for smartphone users everywhere. In addition to these new crowd pleasers, Lenovo’s booth was full of Vibe Z and Vibe X smartphones, Yogas, mobile Win8 products, and so much more. New Firsts Not to be outdone by the S-series and new Yoga Tablet winning product awards, for the first time ever, Lenovo received an award for a mobile app – its blazing fast SHAREit app. And while this was the first time Lenovo has ever had a trade show presence, that didn’t stop its booth from winning multiple praises from the design community and GSMA’s CEO. While the team packs their bags and head home, many will remember MWC 2014 as the time when Lenovo embraced being out on the floor, talking to new consumers and fully realizing a vision come true – one of a computer...

Lenovo welcomed partners and customers to its lounge tonight in Barcelona as it introduced the Vibe Z and Vibe X smartphones to guests at the show. The Vibe smartphone series is one of Lenovo’s flagship products at Mobile World Congress (MWC), and is one of the most talked about offerings by visitors to the booth. “The Vibe Brand is all about users who want to use their mobile device and connect to their environment to tell their individual story and journey,” said Lenovo Ambassador Ashley Rodrigue who then introduced Executive Vice President of Lenovo Business Group, Liu Jun. “This is my third trip to join MWC,” commented Liu Jun. “My first trip in 2011 was when I took over Lenovo’s mobile business, when we were just a PC company. Last year we had a private booth in a small corner, but this year, we have a very big booth here at the show. And during those three years, Lenovo’s mobile business has made very significant progress, with our smartphone sales covering half of the world!” Liu Jun gave special thanks to the European partners in the room, many of whom have played a significant role in Lenovo’s smartphone launches all throughout the region. He also had another, very special announcement for the crowd. “It is my great privilege to announce we will continue Lenovo’s partnership with Kobe Bryant for the next two years!” As the crowd cheered the news, Liu Jun played a...

Viewer response to “The Pursuit”—the new Lenovo action-thriller featuring our heroic Yoga PC—has been phenomenal. The short film is directed by Martin Campbell, the man behind Hollywood blockbusters such as “Green Lantern,” “Casino Royale” and “The Mask of Zorro.” “The Pursuit” is currently making waves all over the world, airing in television markets in many countries. The video continues Lenovo’s recent tradition of creating high-energy, engaging films for our major product launches. (You may recall “Seize the Night,” the film we released in June to highlight our Ultrabooks.) “Part of the start for the Yoga breakthrough was the success we had with Ultrabooks,” said Parker Ransom, Lenovo’s Director of Advertising. “It really felt like we hit on something with the cinematic treatment, and it resonated really well with young people, which we liked.” Saatchi & Saatchi, Lenovo’s global advertising agency, identified a list of possible directors for “The Pursuit.” The person we immediately put at the top of that list was Martin Campbell. “There was just no way we could pass up a James Bond director,” said Erin Heath, Lenovo’s director of global advertising. “The direction and...

Lights. Camera. Action.  The stars of this show?  Lenovo’s newest Ultrabook (the IdeaPad U310) and Campus Movie Fest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival and a premier outlet for the next generation of filmmakers. Making its official Hollywood premier last weekend, the Ultrabook short film “Seize the Night” was shown to crowds of young directors, aspiring actors, and Oscar-winning celebrities alike. In partnership with CMF, their 500,000 plus members are being challenged to develop their own ending to Seize the Night, with the winning treatments earning a production budget, an IdeaPad U310, and the ultimate prize of $15,000 (US). Our vision at Lenovo is to enable doers around the globe and help make their dreams a digital reality by putting the world’s best technology in their hands.  As the weekend went on, I learned CMF shares the same vision with the goal of empowering the next generation of filmmakers with the hardware to create short films. The energy and excitement was at an all-time high as young filmmakers learned about the film-your-own-ending contest.  For many, this opportunity represents the first time they would have a budget to do what they love – make a film. CMF members have until July 5 to...
