When we launched the ThinkPad X1 last year, we thought it was close to perfect for our business customers. It was thin and light and also had all the ThinkPad inspired tradition. However twelve months on, we launched the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which truly is now the ultimate business Ultrabook.    So what makes our X1 Carbon such an awesome business tool? For starters it's forged with carbon fiber,  one of the strongest yet lightest materials available. It is the same stuff used in aerospace, military equipment,  and performance sports like Formula One. When compared to aluminium, there really is no comparison. Carbon Fiber is lighter, stronger and able to withstand much more extreme temperatures. No wonder the military love it. Lenovo’s local product director David Heyworth, spoke to Trevor Long from Your Tech Life about our newly released ThinkPad X1 Carbon on his show recently. Trevor Long’s show is all about simplifying technology. To take a quote from Trevor refering to our ThinkPad X1 Carbon, “one of the best and most robust Ultrabook’s on the market”. Listen in to the entire show by clicking here, as you hear what makes our ThinkPad X1 Carbon so good.

The Adventourists scenic shot from the Mongol Rally with the DO Car and an Eagle Hunter in Kyrgystan

The Mongol Rally is the adventure of a lifetime. When the team from the Adventourists approached Lenovo to power their expedition for charity, we gladly agreed. The true spirit of “For those who DO” is about giving individuals the tools to go and DO. Now that the Mongol Rally has come to an end we caught up with Michael and Freddy of the Adventourists to find out their experiences from the rally and how Lenovo helped them live the DO spirit.. They are settling back into reality but have the “For those who DO” spirit ignited for more adventure… Lenovo: What inspired you to DO the Mongol Rally? Initially, it didn't take long to sign up for the Rally. When we first heard about it, we were all over the idea. But at that point it was probably still a holiday in a year’s time with lots of planning. Half a year later, when we started all the necessary route planning and visa applications, we understood how much more time we would need to spend on preparing to make this trip a successful and enjoyable experience. For us it was an amazing opportunity to step out of corporate life for a bit, experience the world, religions and other cultures while doing something amazing for our charities, The Lotus Foundation & Redkite. Simply put and how Freddy sees it, "The idea of going somewhere remote and dangerous, going away and potentially die - I just signed up straight away." This was also captured in the Official Mongol Rally...

The Adventourists - Michael and Freddy

The Mongol Rally is one of the biggest adventures nowadays. It is a charity event that is now seven years young, running from London, UK to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. That means 10,000 miles across three deserts, five mountain ranges and through 20 countries. This year Lenovo Australia and New Zealand is supporting 'The Adventourists': 2 blokes in one tiny car,  with a ThinkPad X220, ThinkPad X1 and the Lenovo tablet to conquer ⅓ of the world on their journey of a lifetime and all for charity. And so far they have put their technology to the test. In this blog entry, Michael Stoltz and Frederic Chanut tell all from the road!   The Mongol Rally started on the 14/7/2012 on Goodwood Motor Circuit (South of London) with a big bang party and hundreds of adventurists that are taking on the rally this year. It followed with a short sprint to Klenova, Czech Republic, where we celebrated the second launch party at a 13th century castle. Ever since then we crossed Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and are now staying in Georgia, one of the first old Soviet and last Christian countries before heading into ''The Stan's''... So far the rally has been an adventure in itself, the car has been in the workshops three times: once to replace a short circuit, then to replace brake pads and lastly to install some skid plates as protection for the roads to come. It's been a bumpy ride but also a quick one...
